Ripples #879: Day Dreams.
Mar 28, 2016
PEBBLE
Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. -Edgar Allan Poe, shared by Janice in South Lyon, MI
BOULDER
Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning. -Gloria Steinem, shared by Anne in Cincinnati, OH & Deborah in Tampa, FL
PONDER
Simply reading the above pebble and boulder may have knocked loose a thought, feeling, idea, or hunch that has been lying dormant in your mind waiting to be noticed. Invite your curious self to open a stream of wishful thinking; allow your head and your heart to wander in wonder.
Somewhere along the line, you may have concluded that day dreams are not useful because they aren’t practical. While it is true that dreams aren’t *sufficient* to produce significant changes, they are almost always a *necessary* early step in developing ideas. Day dreams rev up creativity, optimism and our desire; these in turn fuel motivation, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. These help us take action that can create meaningful and substantial life improvements.
Consider this an invitation to dream a little more and a little deeper this week. You may want to jot down any recurring ideas or wishes, and eventually you will need to take action if you want them to really count. But for right now: dream!
Peace,
Paul
