Ripples #1311: Recharging (Weak Battery Syndrome)

BOULDER

If you ever find yourself empty from something you cannot know or name, find a stretch of ocean, a field, or mountainside, or even clouds. Or trees. Because there are 1,000 simple ways to fill your tired soul so you can remember how to see and most importantly, how to breathe.

PONDER

“Weak batteries can increase the chance of false alarm.”

This was a simple line in an article a neighbor texted me after our smoke alarms inexplicably went off a few weeks ago, our entire system only calming down once all the batteries were replaced.

Besides the fact that it had been over a year since we changed our smoke alarm batteries (we put a recurring reminder in our calendar to make sure THAT doesn’t happen again), the statement also seemed super relevant as advice for my own personal self-care. It explained why I had been a little quicker to feel frustrated or mildly panicky when encountering the type of low-level stressful “stuff” that inevitably pops up in life.

I quickly identified a few small tweaks I could make to my schedule and my mindset to help with short-term recharging of my energy, and I noticed the difference almost immediately. I also realized this story would make for a useful “Ripples of Recharging” to share with you the next time I was heading out on a more indepth period of restoration. That time has arrived!

While I’m offline for the next few weeks, I invite you to assess the state of YOUR emotional and energy batteries. Can you identify any “false alarms” that have been going off because your energy reserves have become dangerously low? If so, determine the best course of action to charge them up.

It’s worth it, and so are you.

Peace,
Paul
P.S. I’ve spent the last few weeks storing up an extra supply of Ripples, so a fresh issue will still land in your inbox every Monday until I’m back in action!
