Ripples #783: Being Brave!

By Ripples No Comments

Ripples #783: Being Brave!
A splash of inspiration
from The Ripples Guy
19 May 2014

PEBBLE:
Courage, dear heart.
-C.S. Lewis, shared by Kathryn in Annapolis, MD

BOULDER:
If you don’t think
you know how to be brave,
look around;
you’ll find someone who does know.
Follow him or her.
If you follow long enough,
you’ll learn to have courage,
or the courage within you
will rise to the top.
When that happens, turn around,
and don’t be surprised
if someone is following you.
-Joseph M. Marshall III, shared by Bobby in Woolwich Township, NJ

PONDER:
Being brave is *not* about being fearless. Fear is required to reveal courage.  If you’re not standing knee deep in fear, the most you’ve got is strength. And strength will only get you started.  Being brave is about seeing, smelling and tasting the fear…and then saddling up anyway.

I hope you can dig deep and summon the courage to face a teensy or titanic fear and take some action despite your fears.  If you’ve already done that recently, take a moment to congratulate yourself, and possibly share your story in a humble way so that others can be inspired by your example.

Peace,
Paul
p.s.  To my fellow U.S.ians, enjoy the Memorial Day weekend!  I firmly believe it is possible for Memorial Day be a joyous kickoff to the summer AND remain a useful reminder that our freedoms have been won with considerable courage and sacrifice.… Read More!

Fall seven times, stand up eight.

The longer I live, the more I am certain
that the difference between the great and insignificant
is energy – invincible determination – a purpose
once fixed and then death or victory.

I was in St. Louis this week with marketing and training
professionals from credit unions across Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri.
In addition to enjoying a fantastic view of the Arch and the mighty
Mississippi River, we explored the importance of DETERMINATION in
achieving our goals and maintaining a positive attitude. If we are
to enjoy a happy and successful life, we must remember that it will
not always be easy. That is OK! With a bit of determination we can
rise above the challenges and ultimately enjoy life more after
conquering these challenges! Go for it, my friend, GO FOR IT!

Ripples v5.06: Ripples of HANGING IN THERE!

All things at first appear difficult.

I’ve read that I flew up the hills
and mountains of France.
But you don’t fly up a hill.
You struggle slowly and painfully up a hill,
and maybe, if you work very hard,
you get to the top ahead of everybody else.
-Lance Armstrong, submitted by Ezra A., Land O’Lakes, W

I journeyed this week to Nashville, Tennesse to spend a day with a
crew from TDS Telecom (and squeezed in lunch with my good friend
Alana!). We talked about the existence of good days, and the
inevitability of bad days. We will have many of each kind in the
time line of our lives and the trick is to get through the “poopy
days” (that is the technical term for bad days) by remembering that
they are only a temporary experience. As my grandma used to say to
me “This too shall pass, Paulie, this too shall pass.” So whatever
difficulties face you this week, just imagine Lance Armstrong and my
grandma cheering you on!

Have you been putting something off? Something that might make your
life easier, better, more fun? This could be the week to get
started! If we all start something now, we will create a wave of
momentum that will impact ALL of us. We need your ripple to help get
it started! Take some action this week on a project or goal you have
been procrastinating…..and after you’ve taken your first step be
sure to encourage someone else to get started on THEIR something!… Read More!

eRipples v4.05: Ripples of SUMMER!

By Ripples No Comments

=o=o=o=o=o=o=o= PEBBLE =o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o

In the depth of winter, I finally learned
that there was within me an invincible summer.
-Albert Camus, submitted by Rachel

=o=o=o=o=o=o=o= BOULDER =o=o=o=o=o=o=o

What you still need to know is this:
before a dream is realized,
the Soul of the World tests everything
that was learned along the way.
It does this not because it is evil,
but so that we can,
in addition to realizing our dreams,
master the lessons we’ve learned
as we’ve moved toward that dream.
-Paulo Coelho, submitted by Carol

This I know: there are good days and there are bad days. And
sometimes the bad days can be sooooooo bad. Remember, however, that
if you just hang in there a little more…..another good day is on
its way! I believe in you and the world believes in you, so please
make sure that YOU believe in you!

Ripples v1.25: Rockies Ripples

PEBBLE ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

We will all encounter mountains in our lives. We can either climb over
them, turn away from them, or, with the help of others…MOVE THEM.
Written and submitted by Shawn McGuirk,

PONDER ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

This Ripples comes to you from the Colorado Rockies, so thank you Shawn for
submitting a pebble that is so appropriate! I am out here on my
semi-annual retreat into the mountains where I find my soul becomes a
little quieter, my mind slows down, and my body gets to enjoy some magical
hiking, biking, and swimming. I guess I’m enjoying some independence on
this July 4th holiday. I hope you are too!

Monday morning will find me leaving Denver and heading up to Steamboat
Springs where a Ripples subscriber is going to show me some of the beauty
in that corner of the Rockies. I’ll have stories for you next week!

If you have any good ripples about the mountains or about nature, this
would be a good week to send them as I’ll be out here for a few more weeks!

Ripples v1.19: (a bit late!)

I’m sending out a quick Ripples from Cable, Wisconsin as I take a break
from a three day retreat with the RAs from UW-River Falls (Sorry for the
delay–Carole and Vicki had to drive 40 miles to get the necessary
equipment to send this out from the middle of the north woods!).

Last night after watching a video about the Seattle Fish Company (a wild
place to work–they throw fish and yell and have lots of fun!), we were
having an awesome discussion about how to put fun into our lives. One of
the principles they use at the Seattle Fish Company is “Choose Your
Attitude” and we all agreed that we too often let CIRCUMSTANCES or OTHER
PEOPLE decide what mood we should be in. Remember that YOU get to decide
what attitude to have and whether or not today is going to be a good one.
It is, of course, perfectly okay to have some poopy days. Just remember
that YOU choose!

Have a good week!

Peace,
Paul… Read More!
