Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it.

BOULDER

A day dawns, quite like other days;
in it, a single hour comes,
quite like other hours;
but in that day and in that hour
the chance of a lifetime faces us.

PONDER

I started the week with a trip to Milwaukee on President’s Day to help Educators Credit Union with their”Now to Wow” training day, and on Friday was able to present a few workshops here in Madison for a teacher inservice day created by SWEIO (and the keynote speaker, Henry Winkler, was awesome!). My week ended with the adoption of a new puppy, and after 24 hours I’m exhausted and exhilarated at the process of helping my new roommate adjust to life in a condo.

I chose this week’s quotes because presentations I gave for both the credit union staff AND the K-12 educators included messages of learning how to take care of YOURSELF as well as you take care of your best “members” or “students” that you serve. Many of the “professional helpers” I spend time with each year are naturally drawn to server OTHERS, and many of them perceive self care skills as “selfish.” I think we ALL need a constant reminder that it is up to US to take good care of ourselves so that we can serve others in outstanding ways. This weeks quotes remind us of the power in the “chance of a lifetime,” and I hope that in whatever capacity you serve others, I hope you can take the extraordinary step of taking good care of YOURSELF this week so you can ultimately take good care of others! Awesome things can happen when you dare yourself to value self care skills. Do it, I say, and enjoy the outcome!

Oooh, and if you have a second, I’d appreciate it if you could peek at our community forum section to see photos of my new puppy along with a few names I’m considering…I set up a poll so you could weigh in if you have an opinion!

Peace,
Paul
