Ripples #1365: Music’s Magic

PEBBLE

Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears. It is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear.
~Oliver Sacks, inspired by Sara in Madison, WI

BOULDER

You know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe; harmonic connection between all living beings, everywhere, even the stars.
~Wizard Wallace (Robin Williams’ character in August Rush), inspired by Meredith in Green Bay, WI

Music has always played a special role in helping me understand, appreciate, and manage my feelings. Over the years I’ve curated tons of playlists to help lift me up, chill me out, or settle me down, depending upon what’s going on in my head and in my heart.

A while back I started tinkering with an idea to assemble a broader collection of uplifting songs from a vareity of genres, and thought it might be fun to ask Ripplers about which songs help lift them up. Over the last few months I received some help and encouragement from a couple of longtime Ripplers who helped me work through the idea. A bunch of folks from the Team Ripples Patreon Community then chimed in when we were ready to test the form that people would use to submit songs, and we started assembling their submissions into a playlist that you can listen to on Spotify and Pandora.

Can you think of a hopeful song that reliably lifts your spirits? It could be something upbeat that gets you up on your feet, or it might be something a little calmer that gently greets you when you’re struggling a bit. If you have a moment to tell about your song via this Google Form, we hope to continue building our playlist of hopeful tunes that we can all access as needed (you’re welcome to submit multiple songs; just complete a separate entry for each song, pretty please!)

Whatever is going on in your life, and however you’ve been feeling lately, I hope you find a tune or two to help you get in the right groove.

Peace,

Paul

P.S. A lyrical shout out (Shout, Shout, let it all out!) to Sara & Meredith in Wisconsin for helping nurture this idea to life, and also to David in California whose early brainstorms were super helpful as we initially daydreamed about this.
