Ripples #1360: Time Well-Spent

PEBBLE

What is one person’s life compared to the eternity of time and space? Nothing but a snowflake that glitters in the sun before melting into the flow of time.

BOULDER

Perhaps it’s time to rethink the way we regard time. Rather than viewing time as something that must be spent on tangible productivity to be valuable…what happens if we view it in terms of investment? Investment in curiosity, investment in personal refreshment, investment in relationships, investment in growth, investment in making meaning of our lives. Time you enjoy investing is not wasted time!

PONDER

I’ll confess I originally pulled out these quotes for this week because I needed to hear them myself. Lately, I’ve been bouncing between two extremes. On one hand, I’ve felt overwhelmed trying to figure out how to help people who are struggling with all kinds of Big Stuff. On the other hand, I’ve caught myself wondering how much my efforts can really matter—how anyone’s efforts can—when there’s just so much Big Stuff going on in the world right now. Oh, and I also want to get outside and soak up the summer sunshine that’s finally showing up here in my neck of the woods!

So as I read over these quotes again, I can hear them whispering to us:

If you’re a snowflake in the sun—brief, brilliant, and totally unique—what can you do to make this week’s sparkle both meaningful and enjoyable?

You don’t have to hustle to matter. You don’t need a tidy to-do list or a gold star for productivity. Sometimes the best way to invest your time is to simply be present—with someone you love, with something that stirs your curiosity, or within a moment that helps your spirit breathe.

Time may be fleeting, but your attention gives it weight. So do what you can to bring your full Sparkle and Glitter to whatever you’re doing—and whomever you’re doing it with!

I’ll be pondering these whispers all week, and figuring out how to act on them. What about you?

Peace,
Paul
