A few weeks ago, I was exchanging messages with “Kimmy in Wisconsin” about a different quote she had shared for potential rippling, and she wrote something that really struck me as potent:
It’s important that I take care of my inner peace. I choose my response to things, and try to remember what I can control (me) and cannot control (others). Nobody “makes me” feel anything. I am responsible for my experience. And individual peace is the unit of world peace!
I was especially drawn to that last sentence, and in a follow up she mentioned it was something she had seen written on the chalk board in her yoga studio. A bit of googling tracked down the likely source, and BOOM I knew it would make a good match with the Wayne Dyer quote sent in by one of our reliable quote submitters,”Sara in Madison.”
There’s so much going on that is beyond our control, sometimes even beyond our comprehension. And the more overwhelmed we get with what is going on in the world and our little corner of it, the more likely we are to slip into despair and hopelessness. I like the idea that any action we take to restore our individual peace has the potential to ripple peace out to every person we encounter, impacting our communities and indeed the entire world.
We can start with a few of those deep HERE NOW breaths we’ve been talking about more and more lately. If that helps you feel even a teensy more settled, you might ponder what’s the next action you could take today that might instill a little more peace within you and around you. Remember to ask for help when you need, and offer help to others when you can.
